In my opinion,

CITIBANK SUCKS!

(Discover Card is Awesome!)

Why does Citibank suck, you may ask?

We had a Citibank account, and paid our payment via telephone. We had never been late, or over the limit in 2 years. We have 100% flawless credit. Usually credit card companies reward you for being good clients.

We paid our payment, in full via the telephone, the day it was due, our internet had been down due to a storm, we got it back, on payment day, but because online Citibank payments will not be allowed same day, we had to call them. We were assured the transaction would be posted for the day we paid. Our account, was 0% for life on our balance transfer, as long as we made charges each month. New charges, at 7.9 %. They lied. They raised our interest rate on both the transfer, and new, to 29.9%. They also charged us a late fee.  We paid these high interest rates for 3 months, as they said there was nothing they could do, and had no record of the conversation saying we would not be penalized. After 3 months, we got the typical Citibank telemarketing call, wanting us to buy credit protection. We explained how they'd let us down, and over-charged us. We were thrilled when this new representative said they'd put our balance transfer back to 0%, and we'd only have to pay the 29.9 on our new balance. This was not ideal, but better. We declined the credit protection. The next bill arrives, and of course, nothing had changed. We called them again, "Sorry, we have no memos of the conversation" I said, it was a taped conversation, can I hear it? They said "No, you'll need a lawyer, the taped conversation is our property, and you have no right to hear it" I said, fine, I'll get a lawyer. They replied with, "We have no record of this conversation at all, taped or otherwise." I sighed in dismay. We found only one way out of Citibank. We paid it off, and wrote this blog, warning others of how bad they are. We paid  almost $1000.00 in interest on an interest free account.  At the same time this was happening, we had to call Discover Card also, to make our payment on the phone. They informed me, that my web site provider had taken $120.00, and put me over the limit. My heart sank. I had forgotten, I'd asked my provider to take it out a month earlier than usual, because we were going out of the country, and wanted our bills up to date. Discover let me use my bank account, to pay 2 months of the bill (one month in advance) on the spot. The did not raise my interest fees, or charge me an over the limit fee. They even offered to raise my credit (as I have great credit with them), if it would help. Discover Card was awesome.
